MDF The Bipolar Orgainsation Cymru

MDF The Bipolar Organisation Cymru works to develop partnerships with other organisations concerned with mental health to represent the needs of all those affected by Bipolar Disorder (Manic Depression) and to challenge the stigma of any serious mental health problem. The Organisation is a user-led mental health charity for people affected by Bipolar Disorder and their family/carers.

The Bipolar Link Project, which is part of MDF, is based in the South, East & West Wales area. We work with individuals in the community, hospitals, psychiatric units and Community Mental Health Teams, etc. The services provided are varied and include:

  • One-to-one mentoring services where individuals with Bipolar Disorder can be linked up with a volunteer Mentor who has first hand experience of living with Bipolar Disorder;
  • Sign-posting service designed to help people set up a support network;
  • Volunteering opportunities and training;
  • Self Management training;
  • Access to local Self Help Groups;
  • Delivery of Bipolar Disorder awareness sessions to organisations.

If you have Bipolar or are a carer of someone with Bipolar and would like further information regarding the Link Project and its services then please contact:

Angela James (Link Worker), on 01633 244244, or e-mail angela@mdfwales.org.uk

MDF encourages individuals to self-manage their illness and provides links to local self-help groups and self-management courses.

We are currently in the process of setting up a new self-help group for anyone affected by or diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder in the Barry area. The group will meet on a monthly basis and all groups are user led and inspired.

For further information regarding the self-help group please contact:

Keiron Thorpe (Regional Development Officer) on 01633 244244, or e-mail Keiron@mdfwales.org.uk
