NewLink Wales

Voluntary Sector                                              Charity No. 1085545

Summary of aims & objectives:
We exist to support organisations and agencies who operate front line services to substance misusers. Our aim is two-fold:

  1. To recruit, train, place and support volunteers with agencies whose remit includes substance misuse.
  2. To provide training for existing workers and professionals working with agencies whose client group may include substance misusers.
NewLink Wales provides:
  • Volunteering oportunities for people who wish to work with and support substance misusers/drinkers in various placement agencies registered with NewLink Wales.
  • MILE (Mentoring in Learning and Education), a volunteering programme for ex-service users.
  • Trained and skilled volunteers to placement agencies whose remit includes substance misuse.
  • Training for existing workers and professionals working in agencies whose client group may include substance misusers. Training is at various levels and is DANOS compliant. Some courses are accredited to the University of Wales in Newport and we also offer NVQs to support workforce development.
  • In-house courses, which can be designed and delivered to support agencies' specifications.
  • A full annual training training schedule - our programme can be sent upon request.
  • Substance misuse information services to black and minority ethnic communities - our Axis BME referral project acts as a bridge between communities and treatment providers, providing a confidential base, giving support to people in making choices about issues relating to substance misuse.
  • A number of BME volunteers speaking various languages, trained to work with clients who experience substance misuse difficulties and who wish to speak to someone in their own language.

Organisations which take up membership with NewLink Wales are able to become placement agencies for volunters and are entitled to discounts on training courses.
