Summary of aims and objectives:

• reduce discrimination and stigmatization
• encourage service users to increase self esteem, confidence, and good health
• help people with mental health problems to develop independence, self awareness, coping strategies and the ability to make informed choices
• provide services which meet individual need and reflect individual preferences
• improve and raise awareness of mental health and the voluntary sector
• enable individuals to participate in the evaluation and development of services
• improve and maintain the environment in which Cardiff Mind provides services
• encourage and develop the confidence of people with mental health problems to take up mainstream economic and social activities
• improve the quality of management and governance of Cardiff Mind.
• maintain financial visibility and a dynamic organisation by continuing to develop  new and innovative services

A range of groups, activities and social events for men and women who have or are recovering from mental health problems

Floating Support

Support for individuals and families to who have experienced mental health difficulties. Support focuses on helping people to maintain tenancies and live successfully in the community. There are two schemes - one for Cardiff County Council tenants and one with Cardiff Community Housing Association.

Also provide domiciliary care services to help individuals to develop independent living skills.

Referrals:

• For Cardiff County Council tenants a referral has to be made to the Council’s Tenant support Team
• For Cardiff Community Housing individuals can self refer to Cardiff Mind
• For domiciliary Care contact Cardiff Mind. Individuals will need to have an community care assessment.

Mind Works

The project supports people with mental health difficulties to find and maintain voluntary work, employment, training and education. Mind Works also has its own environmental gardening project, Mind Diggers.

Supported Accommodation Services

Women in Mind

Range of services for women aged 18 and over.

• Free counselling service for men and women– waiting list in operation
• Weekly support and activity groups
• Short term outreach support for individuals
• Directory of counsellors and therapists ( The Pink List) published every two years
• Training on mental health and related issues for workers in other agencies

Referrals: Self referral only for counselling service; self or agency referral for other services
